:

SECTION V
REVIEW AND EVALUATION OF EXISTING FACILITIES

SPRING COLLECTION SYSTEM

The spring collection sytem consists of open spring boxes in various

configurations at the five Basalt springs, one at the Lucksinger Ranch

spring, and one on Lucksinger Creek. These spring boxes are

generally deteriorated, are ineffecient and inadequate to protect

these supplies from pollution. They need to be curbed and covered

to prevent contamination from dust, animals, insects, and surface

waters.

.

RAW WATER TRANSMISSION LINES
The line collecting water from the five Basalt springs on Spring
Creek is approximately 4,000 feet long and is made up of 4-inch,
6-inch, and 8-inch thin walled galvanized pipe. This line is approxi-
mately 70 years old and is in very poor condition with many leaks.
Constant maintenance is required to keep this line intact and water

losses at a minimum as most of it lies on the ground surface.

The line collecting water from the spring on Lucksinger Ranch is

approximately 3.600 feet long and is 8-inch steel. The average

burial depth is 6-inches with significant segments exposed.

Both of these lines are susceptible to frequent rupture and potential

contamination. Neither of these lines have sufficient overburden to

~-!-

.
