Most of the soil in the <br />project area is not sandy, thus wind damage is minimal. Hail occurs nearly <br />every summer and has resulted in a range of crop damage from none to severe. <br />The amount of damage depends substantially on when the hail occurs. If hail <br />comes early in the season, it can damage small sugar beets and corn; a later <br />hail could destroy ripe grain. Most farmers plant a variety of crops, thus do <br />not experience complete crop destruction from hail. <br /> <br />-3- <br /> <br />i I <br /> <br />J <br />
