The rate of supply
determined by the requl red

will be covered subsequently.

The fire demand is

fi re flow which

in turn is determined by the type
the buildings, and the type of

of structural exposure, the "fi re load" in

bui Iding constr~ction, all according to ISO guidelines.

.

The minimum fire flow requirement is set at SOO gpm and the maximum for a

single fire at 12,000. Simultaneous fires requi re increases of 2,000 to

8,000 gpm. In a community such as Carbondale, the "fi re load" is usually

ordinary. It has be"n determined that a reasonable fire flow for multi-

family residential areas is 2,500 gpm; in other residential zones, 1,500 gpm;

and in comnlercial areas, up to 3,000 gpm.
