VI-2

.

The present service population as shown in Section IV is 2,600. The

average per capita water use per day from the metered flows in March is

approximately 150 gallons.

The above per capita demand does not include lawn watering which is esti-

mated below but it does include system leakage. An attempt was made to

measure the system leakage in March of 1975 by measuring the inflow to the

system and all known users at 2:00 a.m. when domestic and commercial use

would be at a minimum. Flows were measured at 2:00 a.m. every day for one

week at the transmission line lbove Town, the storage tank in the system,

and at the sewage treatment plant. Toe average flow rates are shown below:

.

Inflow 550 gpm
Tank ove rfl ow 280 gpm
Stock tanks total 50 gpm
Sewage treatment plant 120 gpm
Ave rage Leakage 100 gpm or 144,000 gpd

The sewage treatment plant flows were adjusted since approximately 20 per-

cent of the water customers are not connected to the sewage system and two

trailer courts that are not served by the water system are connected to the

sewer system.

The leakage rate shown here is a very rough estimate, but is does appear

that system leakage is about double an allowabllt leakage rate.

Irrigation water use is estimated based on the lawns and parks within the

Carbondale water service area. The lotal irrigated area served by the water

system is approximated at 110 acres. The actual irrigation demand can vary

from year to year depending upon pre( ipitation and temperature. Monthly re-

quirements for a dry July or August with no rainfall and high temperatures

may be 100 percent greater than monthly requirements for these months in

another year in which rainfall is above normal and temperatures are below

.
