.

SECTION VI
WATER DEMAND AND QUALITY CRITERIA

GENE RAL

An overal I master plan for the development of Carbondale is not presently

available, but present and imminent development is fairly clear and an

ultimate development plan has been assumed as outlined in Section IV.

The ultimate development picture shown here is satisfactory for present

purposes, but must be considered approximate and will change as actual

development takes place.

WATER DEMAND PRDJECTIONS

.

The exact water demands for the Town of Carbondale are unknown at this

time since there is no present means of measuring the demand. There is

a meter located in the water transmission line above the Town which mea-

sures the supply, but this does not reflect the demand since the supply is

continuous and is wasted at an overflow fro~ the present storage reservoir.

A temporary meter was installed in the storage tank overflow line, and flows

were recorded there and at the meter above Town for one week between March 5

and March 13. The average inflow to town was 690,000 gpd, and the average

overflow at the tank was 290,000 gpd, leaving a demand, with no lawn watering,

of 400,000 gpd.

Carbondale water users are categorized below:

TABLE VI-A
WATER USERS

Single Family Residences (approximately
230 a re out of town

Small Commercial Users

Moderate Commerical Users

Large Commercial Users (schools, servi:e
stations, laundromats)

675
17
17

9

.
