At that time, the pump operating the chlor-

inator was replaced with a pressure reducing valve, eliminating earlier

chlorinator problems.

In 1973 and 1974 a six-inch steel line was installed on the surface up

Nettle Creek for a distance of approximately 4,000 linear feet. This pipe-

line picks u~ three additional springs on Nettle Creek and ties into the

10-inch transmission line at the confluence of Nettle Creek and the South

Fork of Nettle Creek. This installation was a Carbondale self-help project

instituted to help overcome the dry weather supply shortage.

.

A Master Plan Report of the Carbondale Water System was completed in Apri 1

of 1975. The report included a comprehensive master plan to guide future

expansion and improvement projects and a recommended initial system improve-

ment program. The initial phase improvement program was designated to pro-

vide water service for the present town plus imminent development. The initial

program included

1. improving the present Nettle Creek source,

2. developing a Crystal River well field and connect to the system,

3. providing additional storage

4. revising hydraulics of existing transmission line, and

5. add pipel ines.

During the summer of 1975, Carbondale drilled and tested a well near the
Crystal River. The well was tested and proved to produce 475 gpm.

A contract for completing the well and providing appurtenances necessary

to connect the well into the present system was let in October of 1975.

Construction is scheduled to be complete in May of 1976.

Recently" Federal lconomic Development Administration loan has ,has been author-

ized for Carbondale for completion of the initial phase improvement program.

Final design is presently under way for this project and should be complete

in February, 1976, with construction beginning in the Spring of 1976.

.
