Up to three scenarios of future irrigation demands
in the basin will be imposed as follows:
ao Historical diversion levels of the irrigation
systemso
bo A diversion level for the irrigation systems
derived by limiting the historic diversions
to a function of the estimated historic
consumptive use (perhaps reflecting a 50
percent ditch efficiency).
c. A diversion level for the irrigation systems
derived by limiting the historic diversions
to a function of the estimated historic
consumptive use (perhaps reflecting a 30
percent ditch efficiency).

L

Estimates will be required of historic consumptive use
under the major irrigation rights to be modeled and a
pattern of return flows to the river. If previous
estimates of consumptive use are not available, then
estimates will be derived using the Blaney-Criddle
methodo It is anticipated that estimates of ditch
system crop acreages will be available from a data base
prepared by the State Engineer's Office. Estimates of
consumptive use and return flow patterns will be refined
through the calibration phase of Task 6c.

Work Product: Generated modeling input data unique to
determinations of Rio Grande storable flows.

L

f
j

16

~

Leonard Rice Consulting Waler Engineers, Inc.
