the larger drainage areas and the resulting large inflow design
floods, the spillway design criteria described in Section IV, A, 4 was
altered. The large inflows required very large spillway widths (300
ft and more) when the flood surcharge criteria of 7 ft was used. For
this reason the Kendig dam sites use flood surcharges which are up to
14 ft above normal maximum water surface.

Spillways were laid out for the six embankment dams each of
which conformed to the criteria discussed in Section IV,A,4 except for
the flood surcharge. The RCC dams also had spillway layouts done.
The spillway design flows are summarized below:

5. Outlet Works

The outlet works for all of the Kendig dams consists of a 48
inch conduit with the exception of the smaller Upper Kendig Dam which
has a 36" conduit. The 48" outlet has a capacity of 375 cfs. The
capacity was determined from the criteria described in Section IV,A,4.
This release capacity is adequate to meet the peak downstream canal
requirements of 150 cfs.
