.

RCC dam spillways are integral wi th the dam; stan-
dard reinfo rced <:oncrete as used to cover the RCC
portions ,of the dam.

I I
II
I
I

. 30 day evacuation of full reservoir
. Unregulated av,erage June flow at the dam
. Peak downstream demand

I
I

b. Outlet Works

- Minimum discharge capacity is the greater of:

- Conduits to be 2', 3' 4' or 5' diameter prestressed
concrete cylinder pipe.

I
I

- Intake structures to contain hydraulically operated
sluice gate for flow control

Outlet structures to be standard USBR impact
stilling basins

I

These criteria are the primary elements which control the
cost of each of the project features. The details of the layouts are
presented in the following sections ,and in Appendix D.

I

s. Methodology for Quantities and Cost Estimates

I

To ensure correct relative costs a standard procedure for
estimating quantities and making cost estimates was established. Dam
quantities were then estimated using uniform assumptions and identical
lists of items. Quantities for thE! spillways and outlet works were
estimated in a similar manner. The resulting tabulations are pre-
sented in detail for each dam layout in Appendix D.

I
I
I
I
I

The purpose of a reconnaissance level study such as this is
to identify those project features which are the most efficient and
offer the highest and best use of our natural resources. Cost estima-
tes used for this purpose must provide an accurate guide to the rela-
tive cost of the project features. The absolute costs are desirable
but much less important. The selection of the correct optimum project
configuration depends on having ,:ost estimates for the project
features which are relatively correct.

IV-4

I
I
I
