I

I
I
I
I

IV. POTENTIAL PROJECT FEATURES

A. General

1. Features Selected for Study

I
I

The project features being considered for
project were determined at the outset of the study.
was to be considered at the following locations:

inclusion in this
Potential storage

Kendig
Beaver Creek
Haystack

Owens Creek
Yank Creek
East Divide Creek

Dry Hollow
Mamm Creek
Buzzard Creek

I

The above sites, except for Beaver, Mamm and East Divide
Creeks, have been studied previously, either by the USBR in its 1966,
1967 or 1982 work, or by Western Engineers (Ref. 22,42,44).

I

As preliminary work was completed, addi tiona1 storage loca-
tions were identified. These si tes included Upper Kendig, a site
immediately above the original Kendig and above the Highline Ditch
diversion, Beaver Creek at Tepee Park, a site in the Upper Beaver
Creek basin, and Upper and Lower Mamm Creek sites which allowed
storage for use on Hunter Mesa.

I
I

Some features which were elements of previous work were spe-
cifically not to be included in this reformulation:

I
I
I
I

- Storage on the Crystal River, by Placita or Osgood Reservoir,
except that potential for water rights transfer was to be in-
cluded.

- Pumping plants on the Colorado River

Several other general guidelines were established which were
used in developing alternative project configurations:

I
I
I

- The overall project scope should include alternative project con-
figurations which are considerably smaller than that proposed by
the USBR in 1982 (Ref. 42)
- Pumping plants should be avoided wherever possible

IV-1

I
