.

CHAPTER VII

MISSOURI HEIGHTS ENLARGEMENT PLAN

at Hoover Dam would be increased by an estimated average of 0.2 mg/l as
a result of the concentrating effect of the river depletion. No increase
in salt load would be anticipated from return flows.

Project Features

Missouri Heights Reservoir Enlargement

Missouri Heights Reservoir would be enlarged by construction of a
dam at a new location within the existing reservoir basin. The enlarged
reservoir would have a total capacity of 10,600 acre-feet and an active
capacity of 10,400 acre-feet. The dam would be a rolled earth structure
with a height of 50 feet and a crest length of 2,500 feet. Materials for
construction are available in the vicinity of the reservoir. The spill-
way would have a capacity of 250 cubic feet per second and would dis-
charge into Cattle Creek. The outlet works would be capable of discharg-
ing 220 cubic feet per second. The new dam would essentially eliminate
existing leakage from the reservoir.

Landis Canal

.

The Landis Canal would be 7.2 miles long. It would have an initial
capacity of 50 cubic feet per second and a terminal capacity of 8 cubic
feet per second. The canal would be earth lined except for in-line struc-.
tures with a total length of about half a mile.

Recreational facilities

Recreational facilities would be provided only for assurance of pub-
lic health and safety. These would include minimum accommodations for
parking and sanitary and trash facilities.

Permanent operating facilities

The project headquarters, consisting only of an office and garage,
would be centrally located, probably at Basalt.

Rights -of-way

Construction of project features would require the acquisition of
private land and the withdrawal of some Federal land as shown below.

.

Missouri Heights
Landis Canal
Total

Rights-of-way required for project
(acres)
Privately owned land
Nonirrigated Irrigated
Reservoir 140 20
81
221 20

Federal
land
40

40

Total
200
81
281

57
