.

CHAPrER VI

SALE OF WATER AT RUEIlI RESERVOIR

One plan which could be ~ollowed to obtain water ~or the Basalt
area consists simply o~ the purchase o~ water ~rom Ruedi Reservoir by
a non-Federal entity, with that entity constructing the necessary water
collection and distribution ~acilities. This could be done by the Basalt
Water Conservancy District, a local municipality, or a company.

The ~easibility of this plan would depend upon the cost of Ruedi
Reservoir water, costs which would be incurred ~or construction and op-
eration o~ the needed collection and distribution ~acilities, and the
use made o~ the water. Generally the developer could develop the same
plans as considered ~or Federal development in the previous chapters
or could develop any ~easible variations o~ these plans.

A principal obstacle which would be encountered ~or this plan is
financing. There are, however, various Federal, and perhaps State, pro-
grams which might provide help on this problem.

.

.

52
