.

CRAPIER IV

GRAVITY PIPELINE PLAN

Municipal and domestic trunklines

The three municipal and domestic trunklines would be buried pressure
pipes. These pipelines would have a combined length of 26.2 miles. They
would vary in capacity from 11.1 to 0.6 cubic feet per second and range
in diameter from 30 to 6 inches. Data for the individual trunklines are
shown below.

Data on trunklines

}'eatuxe
Snowmass Trunkline
El Jebel Trunkline
Carbondale Trunkline

Length
(miles)
9.1
7.6
9.5

Capacity
feet per
Initial
4.4
10.6
11.1

( cubic
second)
Terminal
0.7
1.4
.6

Landis Canal

The Landis Canal would be 12.7 miles long. It would have an initial
capacity of 135 cubic feet per second and a terminal capacity of 50 cubic
feet per second. The canal would be earth lined except for 3.7 miles of
tunnel and other in-line structuxes.

.

Irrigation laterals

Six irrigation laterals would be constructed as branches of the Landis
Canal. They would have a combined length of 12.2 miles and would va:ry in
capacity from 18 to 3 cubic feet per second. All the laterals would be
earth lined except for in-line structures with a total length of 0.6 mile.

Communications and control equipment

Communication or telemetering equipment would be provided in order to
permit monitoring of the Landis Pipeline and the municipal and domestic
trunklines from one central location. The monitoring station probably
would be located at one of the treatment plants.

Dra.ins

The drainage system is expected to require about 7 miles of deep
drains. These would serve about 760 acres in foux small separa.te areas.

Permanent operating facilities

.

The project headquarters, including an office building, garage, shop
and warehouse, would be centrally located in the Basalt-Carbondale area.
Vehicles, tools, and some equipment required for operation and maintenance
of the project would also be provided. Heavy equipment required for major
repair problems would be rented as required for maintenance of the system.

35
