I
II
II
11
I
II
I
II

SECTION 1

GENERAL

Purpose and Scope.

The purpose of this study is to examine the overall Canon City water system

and determine the improvements that will be necessary in each portion of

this system to enable the City to continue to provide adequate water service

over the next 20 years.

The following portions of the water system will be considered individually as

well as collectively so that all portions of the system can be expanded in an

orderly and economical manner as demands increase.

!I

1. Raw Water Supply
2. Water Treatment
3. Distribution and Storage

II

The final objective of this study is to provide cost estimates for the proposed

improvements for use by the City in developing a capital expenditure program to

insure that the water system will keep pace with the needs of the area.

II
II
I
I
I
II
I
I
I

Area Served By City Water System.

The Canon City water system serves oot only the residents within the city limits

of Canon City, but serves a number of outside water districts and users as well.

Exhibit No.1 shows the location of these outside water iistricts and users.

It can be seen that the total area gerved is relatively large and that practically

all areas surrounding Can;n City rely on the City water system.

Population Proiection.

To effectively plan the expansion of a water system, it is necessary to analyze

the area to be served, determine its potential for growth, and make a population

projection which will be the basis for water system capacity.

1-1
