'I
II
II
II
II
II
~
II
II
II

2. That the per capita consumption rate will increase 5% over the next

20 years even though it has been erratic over the past 6 years.

3. That improvements in the distribution system will make more pressure

available at the house tap which will automatically increase the consumption

rate. It has been assumed that this increase would amount to 10% in 20 years.

Using maximum day consumption rates in 20 years of 500 gpcd for areas outside

Canon City and 862 gpcd for Canon City along with projected population figures

for these two areas yields the projected maximum day demand as shown in

Exhibit No.4. Using the Case 1 population projection the maximum day demand

in 1993 would be 17.8 mgd, and using the Case 2 population projection the

maximum day demand would be 21.5 mgo. When considering the capacity of the

treatment plant, raw water supply, Bnd storage capacity these maximum day

demand projections are of prime concern.

Maximum hour demand is used in analyzing and designing the capacity of the

distribution system. The maximum hour consumption rate has been shown to

be approximately 150% of the maximum day rate for most city water systems.

Using this relationship yields a peak hour rate in 20 years of 1293 gpcd

for Canon City and 750 gpcd for areaS outside the City. In 1971 the peak

hour rate would be 1125 gpcd for Canon City and 312 gpcd for areas outside

the City.

Maximum Hour Consumption.

I

I

I

Fire Flow.

_I

The required fire flow for average municipalities as specified by the National
Board of Fire Underwriters is shown below:

-I

Population
10,000
13,000
17,000
22,000
27,000
33,000
40,000

Required .Fire
Flow gpm
3,000
3,500
4,000
4,500
5,000
5,500
6,000

I

J
J
I

2-5

Duration
Hours
10
10
10
10
10
10
10
