;1
il
II
II
II

The average per capita usage has been erratic over the past 6 years and has
actually shown a decrease.

The average daily usage in 1971 for outside users served by the City was

0.66 mgd. Using a 1971 population of 6067 results in an average consumption

7

rate of 109 gpcd. This consumption rate is very low.when compared with

other residential areas in Colorado because many residents outside the City

rely on irrigation ditch water or wells to water their lawns.

II

Maximum Day Consumption.

~
il
il
II

To determine the maximum day consumption for Canon City it is first necessary

to determine the maximum day consumption for the outside water users. The

consumption for the outside water districts and users during June, 1971

(peak month) was 28.2 mg. Using the ratio of 1.34 between the maximum day

and average day of the peak month yields a maximum day usage of 1.26 mg. Using

a 1971 population of 6067 for the outside water users results in a maximum day

consumption rate of 208 gpcd. This rate is substantially below the average

of 500 gpcd for other municipalities in Colorado. It has been assumed that

within 10 years this figure of 208 gpcd will increase to 500 gpcd as

residential areas develop and depend on the city water supply for watering

lawns. For projecting maximum day usage in 20 years for areas outside the

city a figure of 500 gpcd was used.

II

II

As indicated previously, the maximum day plant production in June, 1971 was

8.27 mg. Subtracting the maximum day usage of 1.26 mg for the outside water

users yields a maximum day usage of 7.01 mg for Canon Gity proper. Using

a 1971 population of 9350 yields a maximum day per capita usage of 750 gallons.

This figure is substantially above the average of 500 gpcd of other ~

municipalities in Colorado. The main reason being that residents of Canon" ../ ,. (,

City pay for their water on a flat rate basis rather than on metered usag~~1

For use in projecting the maximum day usage for Canon City in 20 years this Q ~ \

figure of 750 gpcd was increased by 15% to 862 gpcd. This 15% increase was

based on the following assumptions:

II

II

rl

[I

~
~
I

1. That Canon City residents would continue paying for their water on
a flat rate basis.

2-4
