II.
f.
[I
[I
II

Based on the past growth rates indicated by Census Bureau figures and Colorado

Southern Power Company records as well as the substantial real estate developments

planned in the area surrounding Canon City, it is anticipated that the areas

outside Canon City will continue to grow at a relatively high rate.

As with the projection for Canon City, two different population projections

will be made for area outside Canon City to be served by the City water system.

II

The first projection (Case 1) is based on the assumption that the area outside

the City will grow over the next 25 years at a rate of 53% per 10 year

period. This is the average growth rate indicated by Census Bureau figures

and Power Company figures over the past 10 ye~rs.

II

II

The second projection (Case 2) is more optimistic and is based on the

assumption that the areas surrounding the City will grow at a rate of 62%

per 10 year period. Using these projections yields a 1993 design population

of 15,700 for Case 1 and 17,700 for Case 2 (for the areas outside the City

that will be served by the City's water system).

fl
II
II
II
II
I
I
II
I
I
II

Combining the projected population for Canon City and for the area outside

the City to be served yields a total population to be served in 1993 of 27,000

for Case land 32,000 for Case 2. Exhibit No.3 shows in graphical form

the projected total population to be served.

For developing recommendations for improvements required in the water system

due to future increases in demand the more optimistic of the two population

projections (Case 2) wi11.be used.

1-6
