.

.

done earlier indicated that a better site than that originally filed
upon may exist about three miles upstream. A suitable site for a
conventional spillway will be important in selecting the most suitable
alignment.

Consideration shall be given to trying to locate beds of harder
sandstone within the top of the Wasatch Formation or base of the Green
River Formation that might serve as suitable foundation for an RCC dam.
Attention shall be given to jointing and faulting within the harder
units. Based upon this mapping and area-capacity curves, the
Contractor, together with the State, shall select one site for the
detailed foundation investigation.

Task 5 - Reservoir Area Evaluation - The south, or left, side of the White
River in the designated mainstem region has been mapped by the USGS and
others as containing several significant landslides. These slides, if they
exist, could render infeasible a particular dam abutment or could pose a
significant hazard to reservoir slope stability. Most of the existing
interpretation has been based upon aerial photography and has not been
confirmed by surface mapping or subsurface investigation. The Contractor
shall drill in approximately three locations, if necessary, to ascertain the
characteristics of areas that indicate landslides.

For each dam site, a detailed and accurate height-area-capacity table shall
be produced. The area versus dam height relationship is to be subdivided
into the types of lands that would be inundated by a reservoir. Other
characteristics of the reservoir shall be tabulated to assist in preparing
overall cost estimates and in conducting future feasibility and
environmental studies. Items such as miles of stream, residential
buildings, roadways, power lines, and telephone lines within various levels
of reservoir areas shall be measured and displayed.

Task 6 - Foundation Investigations - After the dam axis has been selected at
Powell Park and at the two upstream mainstem sites, the Contractor shall
conduct subsurface exploration and testing of the foundation and abutment

A-6
