.

.

Task 3 - Obtain Site Access - The Contractor shall make all reasonable
attempts to secure the necessary access to the sites for the geologic
mapping, the site drilling, and the construction materials drilling and
sampling.

The Contractor shall prepare an "access plan" which documents the pertinent
ownerShips for each site and the plan for obtaining access. This plan shall
be upgraded to include record of contacts made by the Contractor in
attempting to obtain access. Should access at any site be blocked, the
State will promptly be informed, along with an appraisal of the effect on
the entire study.

Task 4 - Geologic Mapping - Two types of geologic mapping shall be conducted
by the Contractor. The first component will be on a broader areal basis to
provide information relating to selection of specific dam sites. This areal
mapping will cover the reservoir areas and potential dam sites. The primary
objective is to define the structural geologic features and lithology of the
area. Rock units already designated as formations by the USGS will be
mapped. The mapping will note structural features such as the strike and
dip of the beds, joint patterns, slumping, and faulting. These features
will be mapped on the surface in sufficient detail to enable projection of
surficial features to the subsurface. This general areal mapping will be
initiated after aerial photographs and topographic maps are available for
reference. The completed geologic mapping will be the primary information
source to be used in selecting the dam locations, for locating prospective
construction materials, and for evaluating reservoir stability. At the
conclusion of this phase of the geologic mapping task, a meeting will be
held with CWCS personnel, to identify the dam sites that will be mapped in
the next phase.

The second type of geologic mapping shall be carried out on the specific
foundation and abutment areas of each dam axis. This detailed geologic
mapping activity will identify the geologic units and structure in more
detail than the areal mapping and will describe the nature of the soil and
rock exposed. Special attention will be given to identification of faults

A-4
