.

CHAPTER II

COMPREHENSIVE PLAN

Deadman Bench Canal.--Average monthly and total seasonal irrigation
water requirements at various points along Deadman Bench Canal, including
the requirements of the Artesia, Pinyon, and Sunbeam C~nals, were first
estimated on the assumption that the Artesia Canal would be served
directly from the Deadman Bench Canal without storage regulation at
Artesia Reservoir. These average requirements were then adjusted to
determine peak requirements and to coordinate with the operation of
Artesia Reservoir. Derivation of these average monthly requirements is
shown on the following page.

.

~h

. 0,

...'

Afh
'"

~

l

~'
._~

,.,

Looking southwest along Utah Highway 45 at Juniper project
lands on Deadman Bench about 6 miles north of Bonanza,
Utah.

The average July diversion requirements and the peak canal capacity
requirements of Deadman Bench Canal with and without the Artesia Canal
requirements, are summarized below for the month of July.

.

Artesia Canal
Deadman Bench Canal
Without Artesia Canal requirements
With Artesia Canal requirements

Acre-
feet
17,400

Estimated
peak capacity
requirement
at canal head
(second-
feet )
370

Second-
feet
283

97,1100
1111.800

1,587
1,870

2,050
2,420

37
