.

CHAPTER II

COMPREHENSIVE PLAN

The estimated average diversion requirement of 2,800 acre-feet or 46
second-feet in July was increased to 60 second~feet to provide for peak
capacity requirements in the canal within the month.

Wonsits Canal areao--The estimat~d irrigation diversion requirements
at the head of the Wonsits Canal, whiqh would divert from Red Wash, and the
estimated return flows that would be ~vailable in the channel of this wash
from irrigation diversions to the upstream Deadman Bench area are summar-
ized below. The irrigable area that would be served under the canal
would total aDout 5,800 acres. The estimated available return flows exceed
the irrigation diversion requirement in all months, indicating that the
diversion requirements would be fully met from the return flows.

Average monthly irrigation diversion requirements at head of
Wonsits Canal and available return flow from Deadman Bench
(Unit--acre-feet)
Canal Average Estimate of
Requirement at turnouts seepage diversion available
from canal and requirement return flow
Total for operational at head of from Deadman
Month Per acre 800 acres losses canal Bench area
May 0.31 1, 00 1,700 3,500 ,700
June 093 5,400 1,400 6,800 7,500
. It should be recognized that most of the distribution losses
in the sy.stem below Artesia Reservoir for serving this area are included
in the lateral losses allowed for in the estimated requirement at the
Artesia Canal turnouts.

.

35
