.

CHAPTER II

COMPREHENSIVE PLAN

facilities, and future investigations, Construction costs for the lateral
and drainage systems were roughly estimated by comparison with recent costs
of such systems on similar projects. Costs of the lateral systems were
estimated at $190 for each acre of irrigable land and costs of the drain-
age system vere estimated at $100 per irrigable -acre.

Annual operation, maintenance, and replacement costs of Juniper proj-
ect facilities were based on 1960-62 prices. The estimates were made from
data for similar vorks on existing projects, with allowances for varying
local conditions,

The Juniper project has been assigned costs of additions to the Colo-
rado River Storage project transmission system that would be necessary to
increase the capacity of the system as a result of the Juniper project
power development, The assignment of construction costs was based on $100
for each kilowatt of installed capacity at the Juniper powerplant and the
assignment of operation, maintenance, and replacement costs was_ based on
$1.50 per kilowatt, The increased transmission costs would actually be a
part of the Colorado River Storage project Transmission division but they
have been assigned to the Juniper project for use in the project economic
analyses,

.

The estimated costs for the various project works, including prelim-
inary estimates made by the National Park Service for the basic recrea-
tional facilities, are summarized in the following table,

Estimated costs

Feature
Juniper Dam and Reservoir
Artesia Dam and Reservoir
Deadman Bench Canal
Sunbeam Canal
Pinyon Canal
Artesia Canal
Wonsits Canal
Savannah Butte Canal
Laterals
Drains
Juniper powerplant and switchyard
Transmission system
Recreational development
Total

.

Construction
cost
$13,310,000
6,-500.000
80,990,000 )
760,000 )
370,000 )
270,000 )
360,000 )
580.000 )
19,000,000 )
10,000,000 )
9,520,000
3,000,000
904.000
145.564.000

Annual
operation.
maintenancet
and replace-
ment costs
$9,000
8,000

300,000

B4,oOO
45,000
86,000
532,000

25
