I

I

I

Water Demands

Individual wells do not allow tpe compiling of water consumption records.

I

In the absence of that historical daca, water demands can only be estimated

I

based on experience in other communicies and on observations of apparent usage

in the area.

I

Water consumption in the United States averages about 150 gpcd (gallons

per capita per day). Consumption in Colorado towns varies considerably, but

I

is usually higher than the national ~verage. A great deal of water usage in

I

Colorado is for lawn irrigation duri~g the summer months. The average day

consumption in some Colorado towns (~ithout water meters) approaches 320 gpcd

I

due to heavy irrigation demands.

Observations in Larkspur show that there is very little lawn irrigation.

I

Most existing grass areas are small ~nd the combination of higher precipitation,

I

and frugal use of very limited water supplies undoubtedly contributes to

limiting irrigation demands.

I

Water demands have been estimated for the Larkspur area based on the

following assumptions:

I

1. The availability of an adequate supply of water through a
community system will encourage the planting and mainten-
ance of more and larger lawns.

I

2. Installation of water meters as part of the project will
encourage conservative water use.

I

3. The conservative water use habits of the present population
will continue to restrict demands.

I

Using these assumptions and experience in other towns, the water demands

I

are estimated to be:
Average day
Maximum day
Peak hour

=

150 gpcd
300 gpcd
600 gpcd

=

=

I

I

8
