The water requirements verses the water available from the months of <br />April, July, and September show that on the average, with existing 900 acre foot <br />reservoir, these months, which are critical months, do not have sufficient water <br />for irrigation purposes. <br /> <br />On the following page a graph has been prepared showing irrigation requirements, <br />average precipitation, direct flows from 1971 to 1980, reservoir flows from 1971 <br />to 1980, reservoir contents with existing 900 acre foot reservoir, and reservoir <br />contents with the proposed 1,600 acre foot reservoir. Assuming an empty reser- <br />voir on April 1, 1971 the Paradox Valley Canal and Reservoir Company would have <br />experienced a short water supply until April of 1973. From April of 1973 until <br />July, 1977 an adequate supply of water would have been available with a reser- <br />voir capacity of 1,600 acre foot. Even in 1977, a very dry year, a full water <br />supply would have been available until July of that year. The projections fur- <br />ther show that sufficient water would have been available from 1978 through <br />1980 with substantial carryover for 1981. <br /> <br />Water Quality <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />A chemical analysis of the water used by the Paradox Valley Canal and Reservoir <br />Company has not been made but it can be assumed, based on the source of water, <br />that the water is of excellent quality for irrigation. The suitability of water <br />for irrigation is also shown by the fact that the water has been used success- <br />fully for almost 90 years with no deteriorating affects on the land. <br /> <br />IV-6 <br />
