I

1

1

steeper as it parallels, more or less, the existing Ridgway Ditch. Water is

1

diverted from Beaver Creek, Coal Creek and the Springs with no alternate point

of diversion required. Those comments as noted in Alternate IV and Alternate

1

III are applicable to Alternate IVa (revised).

I

The present operation and maintenance problems on the Ridgway Ditch

would continue under Alternate III. Alternates -IV and IVa (revised) would

I

allow a better quality of water requiring less treatment, but still present

problems of operation and maintenance. The Alternate II diversion point would

1

require pumping and, during periods of low stream flow, probably would yield

I

poorer quality water than the other alternates. Establishment of alternate

points of diversion for the water rights held by Ridgway would be required

I

under either Alternates I or II. Estimated construction costs of the five

alternates are summarized in the following tabulation:

I

Alternate

Estimated Cost

I
1

I
II
III
IV
IVa(revised)

$640,500.00
569,595.04
651,870.20
780,692.95
768,360.07

At the present rate of growth, it is anticipated that the water treatment

I

and transmission system under any of the five alternates could supply the water

1

requirements of Ridgway for a period beyond the year 2000 and that additional

water could be supplied by increasing the treatment plant capacity. However,

1

additions to the distribution system would become necessary as new uses develop.

The system would be capable of supplying water for rural areas around the Town

1

but no definite plans have presently been made for such service.

1

Ridgway does not have any major indebtedness involving its present water

v

1
