1
1
I
I
1
I
I
1
I
I
I
I
1
I
1
1
1
1
I

CHAPTER VII , - CONCLUSIONS & RECOMMENDATIONS:

In conclusion, it must be reiterated that the Town of Ridgway is

in desperate need of a modernized water system. The Town possesses great

opportunity for economic growth. While no direct population projections

have been made and educated guesses withstanding, future indications are

for considerable growth, particularly from a mass influx of construction

workers in light of recent developments on Federal projects. Current trends

in population show_natural growth tendencies are in communities with good

water and sewer systems,

,

The existing sewer system can handle approximately 250% of present

capacity without any modifications. However, the water system is hard

pressed to meet current demand and additional burdens will tax the system

beyond its capacity.

In recommending a remedial .course of action the following is proposed:

1) Town Distribution System: Approximately 95% of the Town's Distri-

bution System must be replaced. Some recently installed lines may be connected

to the new system. However, those sections must be tested under a static head

not to exceed 150 psi. Should the lines fail, they will have to be repaired or

replaced. All residential and commercial buildings will be metered. While the

normal service is 3/4" diameter as noted on the Engineer's estimate for the

Town Distribution System, actual sizing will be dictated by the type and nature

of the water user.

Standard fire hydrants will be uniformly located to provide agequate

fire protection. Threads will be National Standard to allow interconnection to

other fire departments.

34
