In

noting Exhibit XI b., some rock can be anticipated. Additional

equipment will have to be used with a resultant increase in

the cost of construction. Most rights of way will have to be

pioneered, gradients steep and accessibility hampered during

times of wet conditions.

Alternate III will not remedy the problems of loss

of water during the course of traverse, nor the continual

strife of water modulation on the four miles of open ditch

from Beaver Creek to Lake Otonawanda. Correspondingly, opera-

tion and maintenance will be greater as this open ditch still

has to be maintained during all seasons.

The raw water will still present problems to the

filter with respect to contamination, high salts content,

colloidal suspensions (organic and inorganic) and an ever

varying quality. Filter media must be replaced and back flush-

ing required more frequently.

4. Alternate IV: (Exhibit XIII e.)
Alternate IV is basically the same as Alternate III

except a 6" diameter gravity line will be installed from Beaver

Creek at the diversion structure for the Ridgway Ditch and run

to the diversion structure in Cottonwood Canyon. At this point

the pipeline would become pressurized to create sufficient

pressure to operate the filters. Having a main diversion

structure on Beaver Creek and minor structures with piping to

Ridgw~y Spring #2 and #3, West Fork of Coal Creek (water rights

2'+
