I
II

I

Purpose of Report

The primary purpose of this report is to provide information

on the alternative means of developing adequate sources of water

to supply the Town of Dove Creek and the surrounding rural area.

I

I
I

One proposed alternative is to obtain treated water from

the Town of Dolores and transmit it through the Montezuma Water

Company system, with storage facilities at pleasant View and Dove

I

Creek.

I

Another proposed alternative is to develop and divert Dolores

River water when the river is high. This water would be diverted

directly from the river near the location of the wells and present

pump station, pumped through the present flow line to a raw water

storage reservoir near Dove Creek, and then treated for use as

needed.

I

I

I

I

The Town of Dove Creek has a critical water shortage for

2 to 3 months each fall. To eliminate this situation it will

be necessary for the Town to construct the new facilities during

the spring and early summer of 1977. It will be necessary for

the Town to either construct a supply line from Pleasant View

and purchase treated water, which will be referred to as Alternate

Number One in this study; or construct a raw water reservoir and

I

I

I

I

treatment plant at Dove Creek to furnish water during the periods

when the present wells are inadequate to meet the Town's needs, which

will be referred to as Alternate Number Two.

I

I

il

I - 1
