TOWN OF BOONE
PRELIMINARY ENGINEERING REPORT
FOR
WATER DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM IMPROVEMENTS

1 . GENERAL
The Town of Boone is a small community of approximately 456
people located in Pueblo County, Colorado, approximately 22
miles east of the City of Pueblo. The Town is bisected and
served by State Highway 96 and the Missouri Pacific Railroad
which parallel each other. The Town's corporate limits en-
compass approximately 400 acres. Boone is primarily residen-
tial in nature with a few business establishments located
along Highway 96.

The majority of the Town's residences are retired persons.
According to the Pueblo Human Resources Commission approxi-
mately 8% of the population are over 65 years of age.
Approximately 19% are receiving Social Security, 39% are
receiving other Public Assistance and 36% are below the
poverty level. The individuals who are employed, for the
most part commute to the Pueblo Army Depot. The remainder
commute to Pueblo.

A nursing home situated in Town houses approximately 30
persons. In addition, the Town is planning to approve con-
struction of a 12 dwelling unit complex for elderly housing
to be located along First Street between College Avenue and
Russel Avenue. This development project is awaiting the
various improvements required in the water system. Currently,
the Town has in the planning stages, a housing development
for low income families to be located on its northern boundary.
Recent public hearings held by an advisory committee appointed
by the Town Council determined that the immediate community
needs order of priority are:
