DESCRIPTION OF THE PROPOSED PROJECT

The proposed project is to replace the existing pumping units in the three Arapahoe wells

with larger pumping units at deeper settings. Flow rates from the three wells will be

improved from current conditions of about 1000 gpm combined yield from the three wells

to about 1500 gpm combined yield to accommodate increasing growth being experienced by

the District. Each existing pumping unit will be removed from the well and replaced with

larger pumping units at deeper settings. Potentially reusable parts, such as wire and pipe,

will be inspected and reused to the extent that such items meet specifications for the deeper

pump setting. Surface controls and piping inside well vaults, along with the vaults

themselves, will be upgraded to meet specifications relating to increased flow rates and

horsepower requirements of the new pumping system at each site. One of the three District

wells, Well A-3, has already been completed under an emergency loan granted by CWCB

earlier this year. This loan is to be repaid out of funding proposed for this project.

A. Reason for the Proiect

The proposed project is to replace the existing pumping units with larger units at

deeper settings to keep up with the increasing demands of the District and because

the existing pumping units originally installed in each of those wells in 1985 are in

need of replacement because of age and declining water levels in the aquifer. Even

without increasing demands due to recent growth, the existing pumping units are in

need of replacement because of age and declining water levels in the aquifer.

13

Jehn Water Consultants, Inc.
