The distribution system in town varies in adequacy. There are

about 11,450 feet of four inch line in the town that badly need re-
placement. Most of this pipe dates ,back to the 1880's. There are
4,222 feet of four inch cast iron and 1,172 feet of two inch steel
pipe that were installed in 1964 and are still in good shape. T.his
part of the system need not be replaced except where additionc,l capacity
is required.
The t.own has 6 one-inch "fire h.vdrants" which are mere1,y sta,nd-

pipes, These need to be replaced by approved fire hydrants, Thereare

also 7 four-inch fire hydrants in to;1n that should be replaced with

the standard hydrants adopted in this project.

As might be expected, the town needs more valves to operate the

system properly. At the present, the town has twenty operational

valves and needs fifteen more.

The heavy equipnent is owned by the town, The }Tater department uses

the backhoe for maintenance of lines and tap insta, llations, but the

budget shows that the water department has never paid for equipment use.
Since tbis equipnent is all in poor condition and needs replacement

badly, the water department should share in the equipment replacement

and operating expenses.

The list of equipnent is as follows:
Type Year Make Condition Comments
Bulldozer 1958 Cat Poor Needs replacement.
lhckhoe 1964 International Poor Needs replacement.
}lotor grader 1954 Cat 12 Poor Needs replacement,

See Map 0 of this report for location of the existing lines and proposed

additional lines.

- 16 -
