Physical Assets

The water system of Rico is very obsolete and inadequate for the
most part. The intake is a small concrete-wooden weir that bas a
subnerged outlet which is plagued by debris, ice and even fish entering
into the to~m' s water system. This structure needs replacement badly.
The line that is in place between the intake and the tank site
starts as a six inch line, reduces to a four inch line and :tater re~
duces further to a three inch line. This line is not in bad condition,
but it is too small. FurtheI'lllore, the town has had nUlllerous probl6l1ls
wi th blockage e3pecially at the points of reduction. This facility
should also be replaced over the three inch portion.
The only treatment the water receives is chlorination just before
it enters the storage tank. The chlorinator is a vacuUlll type gas
chlorinator, very primi ti ve, in a small 8' x 8' wooden shed near the
tank site. The dosage is purely guesswork and there is no real reason
for chlorinating all the water because most of it goes over the over-
now or out the oVerflo~T stations in town.
The existing 100,000 gallon storage tank is in good condition
except for the interior. The inside needs to be sand blasted and
'coated with a good epoxy paint. The town also needs another lDO,OOO
gallons of storage capacity, too. The existing overflow from the tank
is a bad prohlem. It flows right into town and causes a drainage
problem onti1 it can be routed back to Silver Creek. I am suggesting
a new route for drainage for this overflow.
The 1,200 foot long six inch cast iron line between the tank and the
town is almost 100 years old and should be replaced because it is be-
coming a maintenance problem.
