Pro,ject SIl!ll!TlaI'y

General

The purpose of this study is to provide an economical and feasible
plan for rennovation of the municipal and industrial water collection,
treatment and distribution system for the town of Rico, designed for a
projected 40 year period. The limited income of the t(~mspeople thero-,
selves makes the financing of this project impossi.ble with conventional
loans. Since the need for improvement is imperative, the town must
seek a funding agency to relieve the present dilemma.
Present Situation

'.1ater Collection

Does the source of Rico's water, Silver Creek, provide an adequate
quality and quantity of potable water for the town's needs for the next
40 years? This question must be answered in full before any rec~~enda-
tions can be made for conveyance, storage or distribution of municipal

or indu.5t...-ial ",~ter to Rico. This study discusses in detail the ma.xi..rnum

and minimum flows in Silver Creek as well as the ,mter quality and water

rights of the town. After the determination of the suitability of

Silver Creek as a municipal ani industrial water source, the study goes

into details for a proposed water diversion structure whlch, must be de-

signed to withdraw water selectively from the stream without restriction

of flood flows. The design must be simple in operation and maintenance

because of the inaccessibility of the intake at times during the winter

months .

_ J -
