Levels above 4.0 mg/L are believed to
pose health effects related to fluorosis of bones which leads to crippling.
Colorado's standard for fluoride is currently 2.4 mg/L, but will be changed by
the end of 1987 to reflect the 4.0 mg/L standard. In the interim, they will not
enforce the 2.4 mg/L standard. Colorado currently advises communities (and will
continue to advise them) with fluoride levels between 2.0 mg/L and 4.0 mg/L that
cosmetic staining of teeth will occur and they recommend treatment to reduce
levels to less than 2.0 mg/L. Such treatment is not, however, required by law.
Due to the nature of the water involved and the characteristics of the reservoir,
i.e. relative shallow, no special provisions are necessary for selective with-
drawal. Turnover in the reservoir is fairly rapid and the resulting water is
apparently well mixed. Existing screens on the dam outlet structure will be
maintained in place.

Rate of sedimentation in the reservoir is judged to be quite small due to the
upstream presence of several detention ponds and storage reservoirs coupled with
the overall rocky nature of the parent soils group. No significant loss of
reservoir storage capacity due to sedimentation has been noted in the gO-year
history of the dam and reservoir.

30
