I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

Location and General Description

Victor No.2 Dam and Reservoir are located on a downslope flank of, and some four
miles southwest of Pike's Peak. The dam embankment is constructed across the East
Fork Creek, a tributary of West Beaver Creek in Teller County, Colorado, as shown
on the Project Ma p (Fi gu re 1.1). West Beaver Creek flows genera lly south a
distance of approximately 35 miles to its confluence with the Arkansas River
approximately 20 miles west of Pueblo.

Neither the East Fork Creek nor West Beaver Creek below the confluence of the two
flow through any established town or significantly inhabited homesite. The City
of Victor is located off-stream approximately 5.5 miles southwest of the dam and
reservoir.

Victor Dam No.2 is located in the SW 1/4 of the NW 1/4 of Section 2, Township 14
South, Range 69 West. Normal water surface elevation of the reservoir is approxi-
mately 10,390 feet. Apparently, the dam was originally constructed in 1898 with
an original height of approximately 27 feet. During the 1960's the dam was
raised 5 to 8 feet to increase the water storage capacity of the reservoir.
Original configuration of the dam is unknown, but is estimated to have had a
crest width of about 12-feet and upstream and downstream slopes of about 1.75
horizontal to 1 vertical (1.75H:1V). When the dam was raised it was apparently
done so by the addition of fill on the crest and downstream slope.

At present, the earthfilled dam measures approximately 700 feet in length and 32
feet high at the maximum section. The crest width ranges from 9.5 feet to 12.0
feet along most of the length of the dam, with a maximum crest width of approxi-
mately 20 feet near the south (left) abutment. Crest elevations range from
10,397.4 feet to 10,399.1 feet. The downstream face of the dam varies in slope
between 3H:1V and 2H:1V. Measures of the upstream face of the dam above the
normal water surface revealed variable slopes between 1.75H:1V to 2H:1V.

The Victor Dam has two service outlets which include: a 20-inch cast iron pipe
which serves as a low level decant outlet and a 12-inch cast iron pipeline that
serves as a water supply line and flows directly into the City of Victor's water

10
