e <br />. � <br />[he care, operation, and maintenance of such Pro�ect Works by giving written <br />notice to the Contractor of auch election and of the effective date thereof. <br />Thereafter, during the period of operation by the United States, upon <br />notification by the Contracting Officer, the Contractor shall pay to the United <br />States, annually in advance, the cost of operation and maintenance of the works <br />as determined by the Contracting Officer. Following written notification from <br />the Contracting Officer, the responaibility for the care, operation, and <br />maintenance of the works may be transferred to the Contractor. <br />(g) In addition to all other payments to be made by the Contractor <br />under this contract, the Contractor shall reimburse to the United States, <br />following the receipt of a etatement from the Contracting Officer, for all <br />miscellaneous costs incurred by the United States for unusual work involved in <br />the adminiatration and supervision of this contract. � <br />(h) If Federal gran[ funds, predicated upon performance of <br />nonreimbursable functions, are provided to the Contractor, the Contractor agrees <br />to operate the Pro�ect Works in accordance with regulations as prescribed for <br />the performance of such nonreimbursable functions by the head of the Federal <br />department or agency primarily concerned with those functions. In the event of <br />noncompliance by the Contractor with such regulations, then, upon the election <br />of the Contracting Officer, the United States may take over from the Contractor <br />the care, operation, and maintenance of the involved Pro�ect Works in the manner <br />as set forth in subarticle (f) above, ot the Contractor will repay to the United <br />States over the remaining repayment period of the contract, with interest, the <br />amount of the grant funds, and appropriate interest during construction, asso- <br />ciated with the noncompliance situation. <br />AND INSPECTION OF PROJECT <br />i�7;�4F:: <br />18. (a) The Contracting Officer may, from time to time, examine the <br />Contractor's books, records and reports, and the Project Works being operated by <br />the Contractor to assist the Contractor in determining the condition of the <br />Pro�ect Works, and the adequacy of the operation, maintenance, and safety of <br />dams programs, the reserve fund, and the water conservation program. The <br />Contracting Officer may examine any or all of the Pro�ect Works which were <br />conatructed by the United States and transferred to the Contractor, or Project <br />Works which were constructed by the ConCractor with funds advanced or reimbursed <br />by the United States. <br />(b) The Contracting Officer may, or the Contractor may request the <br />Contracting Officer to, conduct special inspections of any Pro�ect Works being <br />25 <br />
