JOB TYPE, SIZE, PURPOSE AND PROGRAM

The Bravo Ditch serves about 990 acres. There are 11
cooperators that use this ditch water. The diversion
structure in the river is almost none functional and if it
fails these cooperators will have no way to get their water
next summer.

This project would repair tne diversion stru~ture in the
South Platte River that serves the Bravo Ditch. It was
pretty much washed away in this spring's floods, a ten year
event or about 18,000 cfs. The concrete diversion structure
was undermined by flood waters. One wing wall and about
forty feet of the floor collapsed into the hole. The inlet
gate part of the structure wasn't damaged by the flood, but
it is old and deteriorated.

The diversion across the river to an island is estimated to
be about 180 feet long. Pa~t of the structure may be
salvagable. The bad part snould be saw cut off and removed.
It is suggested that a row of sheet piling be placed along
the face of the structure. The bad part of the structure
would then be rebuilt on tOl) of "R" pilings.

A sand embankment would be tormed on the west end of the
diversion dam, at the direction of the ditch company. This
would act as a relief valve, in that it would wash away if
too big a flood came througn the area. It would have to be
replaced from time to time.
