WATER
CONSERVATION BOARD

INTRODUCTION

The town of Fruita intends to conduct an analysis of their existing water
system and conduct a feasibility study to determine the most suitable plan
for satisfying long range water needs. Fruita is a rapidly growing
community because of its proximity to abundant energy resources and the
highly desirable local climate.

In determining improvements needs of existing water system and water sources,
at least the following three alternatives will be considered:

Divert water from the Colorado River, and pump it to an enlarged,
modified treatment plant.

.

Purchase treated water from the Ute Water District on a wholesale
basis.

Develop groundwater wells and pump to an enlarged, modified
treatment plant. Review of this alternative is a requirement of the
Colorado Water Conservancy Board guidelines.

The proposed plan of study contents are based on our current understanding of
existing conditions, available existing data, and the requirements of the
Colorado Water Conservation Board guidelines. The proposed study will
utilize the existing Clifford Jex and McDowell-Smith reports to the extent
possible to eliminate duplication of earlier efforts. A report containing
the information presented in the following paragraphs will provide the Board
of Trustees with the necessary tools to implement a cost-effective plan of
action which will provide Fruita with a sufficient and reliable water supply
for the future.

PROPOSED PLAN OF STUDY

Section I General Information: This section will contain a general
description of the area including topography, climate, and
general setting.
Project Engineer 16 Hrs.
Drafting 16 Hrs.
Secretary 8 Hrs.

Section II The Town of Fruita: Included herewith will be a summary of the
Town's history, the Colorado and local laws applicable to water,
and the appropriate powers and authorities related to water supply.
Project Engineer 24 Hrs.
Secretary 8 Hrs.

APPENDIX A
