,

.

.

..) ,;: ~
~

pl/ASE III - TASK 4: PLAN OF DEVELOPMENT

TASK DESCRIPTION: Describe the existing and proposed physical plans; their
various component $ , purpose, and how they will be
operated.

TASK OBJECTIVE:

To show how new f~cilities will be designed and
operated.

METHODOLOGY:

1. Design criteria and standar~s will be developed for the following
features:

a. Sizing criteria for hydfaulic features including pipelines,
pumping, plants, reservoir size, and outlet works.

b. Hydraulic losses for ca~als and pipelines will be assessed;
structural design critefia will be developed for the major
structures, including:

- Stability analysis of the proposed embankments
- Volume and peak discharge of inflow design floods
- Spillway design

Flood routing will use standard Corps of Engineers criteria.
Volume and peak discharge of design floods for the spillways
will be prepared. (New or enlarged diversion dams are not
included in this scope af work.) An evaluation of the flood
and erosion hazard of the facility will be prepared.

c. Vhere appropriate, sizing criteria for cross-canal drainage
culverts will be prepared, as necessary. The maximum,
minimum, and normal water surface elevations will be
identified for pumping facilities. The number and sizes of
pumping units in pump stations will be selected to provide
flexibility for varying water demands.

d. Preliminary designs of pump stations will be prepared to
proportion side and back wall clearance and submergence of
pump intakes to limit approach velocities to the pump's
acceptable limits.

7
