<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />CHAPTER 1 <br />GENERAL INFORMATION <br /> <br />1.1 Purpose: <br /> <br />The purpose "f the Alsbury Reservoir Project is to provide a late-season <br /> <br /> <br />water supply for .presently irrigated lands which presently rely on the natural <br /> <br /> <br />flow of East Divide Creek; and also to provide a source of augmentation water <br /> <br /> <br />for new residences in the area which will obtain their water supply from wells. <br /> <br />1.2 Project Location and Description: <br /> <br />Alsbury Reservoir is located near the headwaters of East Divide Creek in <br /> <br /> <br />the extreme eastern end of Mesa County. Elevation at the reservoir site is <br /> <br /> <br />9,000 feet. Tributary drainage area to the reservoir is approximately 1.75 <br /> <br /> <br />square miles. The rim of the drainage basin reaches a maximum elevation of <br /> <br />10,000 feet. <br /> <br />The only Project feature is Alsbury Darn, proposed to be constructed to a <br /> <br /> <br />height of 25 feet above the stream bed. It will impound approximately 255 <br /> <br /> <br />acre-feet of water above minimum pool level, out of which, ultimately, an <br /> <br /> <br />average of 250 acre-feet will be released annually on demand to purchasers <br /> <br /> <br />within the service area. Figure 1-1 shows the Project location and service <br /> <br />area. <br /> <br />1. 3 Climate: <br /> <br />The Project service area ranges from an elevation of 5,800 feet to 7,000 <br /> <br /> <br />feet. Irrigated areas are generally below 6,400 feet. Average length of the <br /> <br /> <br />growing season is 120 days. <br /> <br />-1- <br />
