EXISTING WATER SUPPLIES

111-5

The existing development has been entirely supported to date by small private

water systems. Relatively sol id bedrock, plus potential contaminiation from

individual sewage disposal systems have limited individual shallow wells. All

of the private pipeline systems are summer-only operations using shallow pipe-

lines. Summary descriptions of the systems follow.

Tregamba Ditch (Oscar Jackman)
This system is reported to be over 45 years old and originally
supplied the Town through open ditches. Distribution is now
through pipes laid near the ground surface. Pipe sizes range
from 3" to 3/4" size and the condition is poor to good for the
newer pipes. The system normally operates from May 15 to Oct-
ober 1. Mr. Jackman has constructed a 5 foot square slow sand
type filter and the water is chlorinated. The system has 18
customers plus the Jackman's residence and 10 cabins. These
customers include the lodge, 2 cafes, and other businesses.
Service charges are now $20 to $40 per ~eason.

Street Line
This was installed in the 1920's. It is a direct diversion
from \~illow Creek and serves 5 residences in the summer only.

Speer Line
The Speer Line has a screened intake on Willow Creek. The
intake is about 800 feet upstream of Allenspark. The supply
consists of approximately 20 feet of 4", 150 feet of 2t" and
the remainder of 2" steel pipe on the surface. The pipe ap-
pears to be in good condition. The Speer line has an adjudi-
cated water right (See Section III). It has about 12 to 15
customers; the charge is $20 per season.

School Pipel ine
The school has a I" steel pipeline which diverts from a con-
crete intake in Willow Creek. The line feeds the school build-
ing and one other customer. It is of particular interest be-
cause it was operated all year, which tends to corroborate
local opinions that Willow Creek flows all year.

~
