1
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

OBJECTIVES

1-7

o The site should feature adequate viewing areas, such as overlook
platforms to view boating activity.

o Where practical, the by-pass and by-pass site should support other
uses such as fishing and picnicking.

o Landscaped areas should have adequate soil preparation and
sprinkler systems.

USER ACCESS, PARKING, FACILITIES.. PORTAGE
The boat chute structure should have adequate access, parking and unloading
areas for boaters, spectators and equipment. Boaters should be able to
easily--without conflict with other uses--portage around the boat by-pass
structure as well as be able to easily scout the by-pass and make repeat
trips. Toilet, drinking water. and on-site storage facilities may be
considered.

I
I
I
I
I

o Provide a driveway cut and adequate parking/unloading areas.
Initially, a dirt lot may be adequate, which would later be paved
and curbed. Prior to curbing, traffic posts should be provided to
keep vehicles out of unauthorized areas.

o Provide entry and identification signs to direct users to facility
from Santa Fe, Federal, and Union.

o Provide vehicle access control gates.

o Provide an access/portage trail which is separate. from the
hike/bike trail. Trail should be surfaced to prevent erosion and
wide enough for people to carry a raft. Trail should offer good
viewing of the entire by-pass for scouting and should be able to
accommodate maintenance trucks removing debris from the chute.
