Routine maintenance consists of trash
pick-up, mowing and weed control, and is performed several times a year.
Annual maintenance consists of the repair or replacement of damaged or
deteriorating sections of the boating by-pass structures, including debris
removal. erosion repair, bank stabilization, and pruning of vegetation, as
well as structural repairs. Flood maintenance is best described as damage
repair and, as such, will not be estimated but will be addressed under
reliability and structural stability.

INSTITUTIONAL FRAMEWORK
The ownership, maintenance responsibility and operation of the boat chute
will be defined so as to eliminate uncertainties, overlapping and/or
undesignated responsibilities. A framework of institutional relationships
will be prepared.

RELIABLE HYDRAULICS UNDER A RANGE OF FLOWS
The boat chute deSign should provide reliable operation for boaters within
pre-selected and reasonably chosen flow ranges. For instance, it will not
be satisfactory for a large hazardous standing wave to develop at certain
flows, or for currents to stray from the boating path to carry boaters into
unplanned obstacles.

It is planned that design would be aimed at providing reasonable boating
opportunities for discharges through the chute of at least 50 cfs. At
higher flows, the structure components should be free of damage and not be
subject to undue siltation.
