Recreational boating opportunities for novices and experts are
optimized.

2. The appearance of the boat chute would be more representative of a
natural looking channel by-pass.

3. The existing Oxbow Lake (the old channel of the South Platte
River) is incorporated into the boat chute which provides
opportunities for canoeing and boating practice.

4. The overall layout and design of Alternate No. 5 is made to be
compatible with the existing Centennial Park and Centennial Park
Lake. For instance, if Centennial Park Lake was extended to the
east, boaters would be able to utilize the boat chute through its
upper 2,000 feet, carry the boat or raft up a mild incline to
Centennial Park Lake and paddle back to the point of beginning of
the boat chute.

5. The existing outflow from Centennial Park Lake, if extended
easterly, would provide for a continuous low fish flow through the
boat chute to facilitate fish migration and improve habitat in the
boat chute pools.

6. The nature of the mild hydraulic gradient of an average of 0.007
feet per foot provides the opportunity for installation of kayak
slalom courses in the boat chute. In addition, the boat chute
would function as a center of boating activity in itself, not
merely a boating by-pass of the dam.
