Various
combinations of storage and transbasin diversions were considered.

The first alternative was developed using native waters of Tongue Creek only. This
alternative required the greatest amount of reservoir storage capacity.

The second alternative was developed using Leroux Creek diversions to augment
Tongue Creek supplies. This alternative resulted in less storage capacity but it
required the addition of the Leroux Creek feeder canal.

The third alternative utilizes water from the Overland Ditch system in addition to
the two previous sources. Alternative 3 requires the least amount of storage
capacity but would entail enlargement of the Overland Ditch as well as the Leroux
Creek feeder canal.

C. Alternative Plans

1. Plan Components

The following structural elements were used in one or all three alternative
plan configurations:

o Cactus Park reservoir with alternative storage capacities varying from
12,000 acre-feet to 30,000 acre-feet. Each alternative included an
inactive storage of 5,000 acre-feet. A Cactus Park reservoir was
included in all three alternatives.

o Surface Creek feeder canal was included in all alternatives to convey
Tongue Creek basin surplus water to Cactus Park reservoir from over a
distance of 7.7 miles with capacities varying from 80 cfs to 200 cfs.
The first point of dtv..ersiQn to this canal would be located near Highway
_~____'_ _n____'_"" _ _ -.-- ____~_______.________,____._,_._._ ._u ._...___""."
65 as it crosses Kiser and Youngs Creek. The next major diversion to
this canal would be on Surface Creek east of Highway 65 and north of

V-3
