,

,

V. PLAN OF DEVELOPMENT

~

A. Project Description

~

The objectives of this study are to define the main seepage mecha-
nisms for Santa Maria Dam, identify and cost potential methods of
controlling or eliminating the seepage, and compare those costs to
potential benefits (increased reservoir storage) delivered from the
rehabilitation. A recommended method of controlling or eliminating
the seepage will be developed if the value of the benefits exceeds the
estimated cost of repair. This recommended method will be justified
and described in detail.

"III

"III

~

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

The current reservoir storage hold order restricts storage volume
to 32,000 acre-feet. The hol d order was imposed due to concern over
embankment integrity with highE!r levels of seepage within the right
abutment area (> 1.0 cfs).

The program of study includE!d the following:

1. Embankment and reservoir inspection and surficial geology.

2. Geotechnical and geophysical investigation.

3. Analysis of data and evaluations to determine seepage
mechanisms.

4. Define potential remedial measures and costs.

V-I
