I
'I
, II
I
I
I
II
I
II
II
II
i II
I
I
II
I
II
II
II

study which specifically addressed the population of the area south
of the Colorado River. The capacity analysis presented in that study
concluded that a much smaller portion of the South Rifle area
(260,8 acres) has a potential residential capacity of 3,946 persons.
This estimate is in good agreement with the ultimate residential
population of 4,800 adopted for this study for a larger area.

The number of residential units planned for Rifle Village South and
an assumed density of residential units for the rest of the project
area were multiplied by an estimated average number of occupants per
dwelling unit of 2.75 to obtain the total projected population for
the area.

SURFACE WATER SUPPLY

The source of the raw water supply for the South Rifle Division would
be from the flows of the Colorado River available under a portion of
the West Divide Project direct diversion rights on the Crystal River
which would be transferred to an intake at a river pumping station,

In order of magnitude, the required diversions for the South Rifle
Division are insignificant when compared to the flow of the Colorado
River at Rifle. The estimated peak day diversion demand by year 2025
is 4 cfs which is less than 1/900th of the average flow in the Colorado
River at Rifle. There are no USGS gaging stations on the Colorado
River in the vicinity of Rifle; therefore, evaluations were based on
the recorded streamflows at Glenwood Springs as shown in Table IV-5.
The streamflows at Rifle would be larger than the recorded flows below
Glenwood Springs by approximately the amount of the inflows from Canyon,
Elk, Garfield, Divide, and Mamm Creeks. The values given in Table
IV-5 are the sum of the recorded flows at USGS gaging stations 9-0725

IV-6
