Distribution System

The existing water distribution system of the City of Delta
consists primarily of 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12-inch diameter water-
lines. The pipeline materials are a mixture of cast iron, asbestos
cement, and steel primarily in the larger sizes. The system is buried
from three to four feet to provide reasonable protection from
freezing. The system is basically gridiron and is looped. There are
no separately supplied pressure areas within the distribution net-
work. The only water supply enters the system on the north side of
the City through one 10-inch and one 12-inch parallel waterlines.
Within the system, 4-inch waterlines generally run north-south with 6
and 8-inch connecting mains running east-west. A 12-inch main is
buried in Main Street underlying most of the traffic passing through
the City.
