I

I

I

Over the years, the original Delta Pipeline suffered severe
deterioration and was phased out as other pipelines were constructed
on Grand Mesa. However, beginning in about 1960, the City began
replacing short sections of the original tile pipeline with steel
pipe. Most of the leaks have been repaired and this arm of the
collection system is again operational.

I

I

The Doughspoon Aqueduct also originates at the headwaters
of West Doughspoon Creek and extends easterly across the east
fork of Doughspoon Creek to where it joins the Dirty George
Creek Aqueduct. The Doughspoon Aqueduct is a 7-inch steel pipeline
which is approximately 3.2 miles long. The pipeline draws water from
the Doughspoon Reservoir (Delta City No.1 Reservoir). Water released
from the Pitcairn Reservoir may also be picked up where the pipeline
crosses the east fork of Doughspoon Creek.

I

I

I

The Dirty George Creek Aqueduct originates at the headwaters
of Dirty George Creek and collects water from several springs
located below Little Battlement Reservoir. An 8-inch steel pipeline
approximately 4,225 feet long conveys water from some of the springs
to the Dirty George Creek headgate. At this point, water supplies may
be picked up from releases from the Battlement Reservoirs, the Basin
Reservoirs, or the Granby Reservoirs. In addition, water rights in
the Orchard Mesa Ditch, Delta County Ditch, Hoosier Ditch and Blake
Ditch may now be picked up at this point. The Dirty George Creek
headgate is also the point of diversion for 40 statutory inches
0.04 c.f.s.) in Dirty George Creek. A l2-inch pipeline extends
southeasterly from the headgate on Dirty George Creek and crosses
several distinct features including Kelly Creek, a rise known as
Abe's Hill, Oak Creek, a steep area known as Hells Kitchen, and its
connection with the Doughspoon Aqueduct.

I

I

I

I

I

I

I

I

I

I

III - 2

,I
