.

.

.

Precipitation Data
Staff reviewed local precipitation data sets from 2 different sites located around the Big Blue
Creek Drainage (see Precipitation Data in Appendix C). These sites include Lake City (1905-
1999) and Blue Mesa Lake (1967-1999), Table 3 shows the water year and the percent of
average precipitation recorded at each site.

Table 3: Precipitation Data as a percentage of Average,

W ate r

B I u e
M

L a k e

y e a r C i t y e 5 a
1 9 5 4 8 4 %
1 9 5 5 7 0 %
1 9 5 6 7 6 %
1 9 5 7 1 5 5 %
1 9 5 8 8 1 %
1 9 5 9 1 0 4 %
1 9 6 0 9 0 %
1 9 6 1 9 4 %
1 9 6 2 8 3 %
1 9 6 3 1 0 0 %
1 9 6 4 1 3 5 %
1 9 6 5 1 2 8 %
1 9 6 6 8 4 %
1 9 6 7 8 9 %
1 9 6 8 6 7 % 9 1 %
1 9 6 9 1 2 7 % 1 9 7 %
1 9 7 0 1 0 1 % 1 2 0 %
1 9 7 1 7 7 % 9 8 %
1 9 7 2 8 1 % 8 9 %
1 9 7 3 8 0 % 9 2 %
1 9 7 4 7 9 % 9 3 %
1 9 7 5 9 2 % 9 3 %
1 9 7 6 6 2 % 9 2 %
1 9 7 7 1 0 3 %
1 9 7 8 9 3 %
1 9 7 9 7 4 % 6 7 %
1 9 8 0 9 7 % 6 8 %
1 9 8 1 1 2 4 % 1 0 8 %
1 9 8 2 9 5 %
1 9 8 3 1 1 5 % 1 2 2 %
1 9 8 4 1 3 7 % 1 2 4 %
1 9 8 5 1 1 6 % 1 0 6 %
1 9 8 6 1 0 9 % 1 3 5 %
1 9 8 7 8 9 % 1 0 1 %
1 9 8 8 8 6 % 1 1 5 %
1 9 8 9 6 7 % 5 6 %
1 9 9 0 1 2 4 % 9 2 %
1 9 9 1 8 3 % 8 4 %
1 9 9 2 9 3 % 9 0 %
1 9 9 3 8 7 % 1 0 3 %
1 9 9 4 1 0 4 % 6 2 %
1 9 9 5 1 2 1 % 1 3 6 %
1 9 9 6 1 1 9 % 9 2 %
1 9 9 7 1 1 2 % 1 0 3 %
1 9 9 8 1 0 3 % 8 0 %
1 9 9 9 1 2 0 %

Table 3 shows a slight variation of precipitation between the two relatively close precipitation
sites, It is staff's opinion that the 45 years of stream-flow data analyzed is representative of
average water-years.

Existing Water Right Information

Staff has analyzed the water rights tabulation and consulted with the Division Engineer Office to
identify any potential water availability problems. There are decreed surface diversions within
this reach of stream, However, the Big Blue Ditch Diversion is senior to all other diversions and
is decreed for 21.9 cfs. Based on this analysis staff has determined that water is available for
appropriation on Big Blue Creek, between Failes Creek and the Big Blue Creek Ditch Diversion,

- 6 -
